[There is nothing quite as satisfying as the sound of a kick landing properly on the punching bag... unless of course, you compare it to the thrill of taking down real bad guys out there in the field.

Kate rams her fists onto the leather, feeling the impact, guaging the strength of the hits and alternating between using upper and lower limbs to beat the proverbial shit out of her imaginary opponent.

When she delivers a particularly strong kick that sends the bag swinging wide, she executes a backflip -- not perfect, her balance is off a little to the left, but she adjusts and compensates so that she lands squarely on her feet in time to face the bag as it swings back towards her.]

[Billy winces with every hit Kate throws, until his left eyebrow gets twitch fatigue and he's all but cringing with how much beating the bag is getting.]

Uhm, Kate? Far be it from me to ask but is there someone you're... thinking of, right now?

[Billy's question breaks her momentum, so Kate catches the bag between her palms instead of hitting it again.]

...wait-- what? Huh? [She only half-heard the question and her heart is thudding really loudly in her ears.]

Sorry-- [She blinks and lifts a hand to wipe the sweat hat's pooled on her brow. Sweat in eyes, not a good thing. Ever.] You asked something?

[Yeesh.]

I'm just saying, you seem pretty set on knocking the heck outta that thing. Did Eli do something again?

[She's taking deep breaths. It's no easy thing, coming down from an adrenaline high.]

Wh... why would I be pissed off at Eli? [Sure their resident fearless leader has occasionally gotten on her bad side, but he hasn't done anything to warrant irritation... today, at least.] I'm not-- [Okay, this is ridiculous. She breathes deeply, holds her breath; exhales. Okay, there. Better.]

I'm not pissed off at Eli. [She crosses over to Billy and reaches for the towel she tossed on the seat beside him.]

You two haven't been getting on well lately. And I can tell, you know? With the whole...

[He makes a noncommittal gesture, as if to say "all this". But hey, he's got chips and a bottle of orange juice, and Kate's not mad about both things being in her gym.]

I thought you two were dating.

We are.

[She slumps down beside Billy.]

Sort of.

...Wow.

[In a single syllable Billy loads everything he can think of - wow, as in that's complicated; wow, as in that's such a mess; wow, as in wow and he thought he and Teddy had problems.]

You could. Uhm. There's always Tommy?

[Kate opens her mouth to say something--

--and closes it again while slinging the towel around her neck. Tommy is a whole different can of worms. Not to mention there's that whole thing about him being Billy's brother in a... sort-of-not-really-biologically-speaking-but-yeah-sure kind of way.]

I... [Kate shrugs lamely.] I'm just not very up to the idea of a relationship. [That's a lie. Sort of. She doesn't have commitment issues. It's the intimacy bit that gets to her and somehow, she has a feeling Eli won't get that.]

["Yeah sure" is how he's dealing with a lot of things, lately. Alien shapeshifter as boyfriend? Sure, why not. BFFs with the Kate Bishop? Awesome, lead the way. Thor being way hotter in person-ish? Sold, bartered, taken, come at me.

After a certain point Billy's just done asking questions.]

Well, if it's because they're both jerks, I'm not blaming you. I'd clone Teddy if I could, but aha.

You'll find your Bucky yet, Kate. [And okay, okay, so that's something Cassie has dibs on, but we're friends right?]

B-Bucky-- what. What are you talking about. [And under her breath she adds:] Don't say that out loud, Billy. [Not blushing. Flushed from training, yes. Not blushing.]

It's not that they're jerks. [Cue snerk.] Though I swear, the headache I get from them sometimes... I dunno. [She looks over at Billy and just... smiles. And pinches his cheek just 'cause she can.] I just haven't been getting enough sleep.

[That... wasn't supposed to have slipped out.]

So. You hungry? I think I need lunch.
